Meet Hannah

I’m Hannah Amoroso, and Baton Rouge has been my home since third grade. I’m the second of four children, raised by a math teacher and a campus minister.

When we moved here my parents enrolled me and my older brother into Audubon Elementary, which was our neighborhood school. We had attended a private school in Austin, but our family's financial situation no longer allowed for that. We were welcomed into those classrooms under the administration of Phyllis Crawford, whose vision for public education is every bit as inspiring today as it was then. That experience shaped my belief in the power and promise of public education.

In fifth grade, our family moved across town, and I began attending Westminster Elementary. There, my teacher Barbara Hoffman gave me the confidence to believe in my academic abilities and to strive for excellence. I went on to attend McKinley Middle Magnet and then Baton Rouge High School, where I met my future husband, Sam Amoroso. We graduated in 1995.

I returned to Austin for college, earning a 4.0 in my physical therapy prerequisites before attending The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, where I graduated first in my class in Physical Therapy. Sam and I were married in 1999 and returned home to Baton Rouge in 2003 for him to start his PhD program in engineering at LSU.

Sam and I are the proud parents of two children who have attended East Baton Rouge Parish public schools since pre-K and are now thriving at Baton Rouge Magnet High School. Their success is a testament to the many dedicated educators in our system, and it’s something I am deeply grateful for. I continue to serve our community as a practicing physical therapist.

In 2012, I became aware of the St. George effort, which sparked my deeper involvement in understanding the challenges and opportunities within our school system. Over the past 14 years, I have committed myself to staying engaged through VIPS, active membership in my children’s school PTAs, involvement with Beyond Bricks and Beyond Grades, and mentoring with BRYC, as well as being a close follower of the School Board.

Through these experiences, I have seen firsthand both the strengths of our schools and the real challenges they face. I believe deeply that we have the foundation, the people, and the potential to build the school system our community deserves, and I am committed to being part of that work.

My Vision for EBR Schools

My vision is to build a public school system of which every family in our community is proud and would gladly choose for their own child. Whether we currently use our public schools or not, they shape the future of our entire city and are worthy of our time, attention, and support. These are our schools, our future, and our shared responsibility.

I believe that every child in Baton Rouge, no matter their income, zip code, or whether they are in a special program or at their neighborhood school, deserves:

  • A school that is safe, welcoming, and nurturing, where they feel seen and valued.

  • A qualified teacher who is well-compensated, supported, and respected as a professional.

  • A developmentally appropriate curriculum that is challenging and engaging, meets them where they are, and helps them grow into confident, successful citizens.

I also believe:

  • Teachers should be able to focus on teaching, knowing their administrators will back them up in handling behavioral disruptions and protecting the learning environment.

  • Taxpayers should be confident that their hard-earned dollars are going where they matter most: into classrooms, not unnecessary outside contracts or a top-heavy central office.

  • Stakeholders should trust that their local leaders are standing up for our schools at the state level whenever our students and educators need a strong voice.

Transparency and Communication

We will implement clear performance metrics and open communication channels to ensure every parent knows exactly what is happening in their children's schools.

Financial Stewardship

Investing in modern facilities, advanced technology, and professional development for our teachers to provide a world-class learning environment for all students.

Community Engagement

We are committed to building strong partnerships between families, educators, and local leaders to shape a future that reflects our shared values.
