Hi! I'm Hannah,
and Baton Rouge has been my home since third grade. I’m the second of four children, raised by a math teacher and a campus minister.
When we moved here, my parents enrolled my older brother and me into our neighborhood school - Audubon Elementary. In Austin, we had attended a private school, but our family's financial situation no longer allowed for that. We were welcomed into those classrooms under the administration of Phyllis Crawford, whose vision for public education is every bit as inspiring today as it was then. That experience shaped my belief in the power and promise of public education.
After moving across town, I attended Westminster Elementary, where my teacher Barbara Hoffman helped me believe in my abilities and strive for excellence. I went on to McKinley Middle Magnet and Baton Rouge High, where I met my husband, Sam. We graduated in 1995.
I later returned to Texas for college and earned my Master’s in Physical Therapy from The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, graduating first in my class. Sam and I married in 1999 and came back home to Baton Rouge in 2003 while he pursued his PhD at LSU.
We’re now raising two children who have attended East Baton Rouge Parish public schools since pre-K and are thriving at Baton Rouge Magnet High School. Their success reflects the dedication of the educators in our system—something I’m deeply grateful for. I continue to serve our community as a practicing physical therapist.
In 2012, I became aware of the St. George effort, which deepened my involvement in our school system. Over the past decade, I’ve stayed engaged through VIPS, PTA leadership, Beyond Bricks and Beyond Grades, mentoring with BRYC, and closely following the School Board.
Through these experiences, I’ve seen both the strengths of our schools and the real challenges they face. I believe we have the foundation, the people, and the potential to build the school system our community deserves—and I’m committed to being part of that work.
